Along with finding a trainer to help with exercise technique, I worked with an RD for 6 months to track my progress. Up to this point, I never looked at food as fuel for my body so I can perform at my best. I see food as macros now, protein, fat, carbs, each having their intended purpose for my body and my training. I eat with a purpose everyday, just as I train with a purpose. I do not deviate from my total calories/day or % protein, fat, and carbs in my diet. Because my goal was to put on weight, I am in a caloric surplus, eating 1800 cal/training days and never less than 1500 cal/non-training days. I sometimes eat more than the 1800 cal because I have Sienna now. I also eat every 3 hours without even thinking about it. It has become a way of life for me and if I know I will be out of the house for an extended period of time, I plan accordingly and prep food to take with me. My post workout meal is whey protein with some added carbs like miniwheats. Unlike most people, stress causes a decrease in my appetite, so when this happens I force myself to get my target calories. Although I am disciplined with my nutrition and training, I do not deprive myself from unhealthier foods or eating out on occasion. What I think is most important in my level of success is the consistency with which I approach my nutrition and training. Be consistent.
